Newark is famous for its Castle, national importance in the 17c Civil War, Church St Mary Magdalene and being the crossroads for two key arterial passages. The old main Great North Road used for hundreds of years before it became known as the now familiar A1 and the Fosse Way which goes from Lincoln to Exeter the section going from Lincoln through Newark and on to Leicester we now call the A46. These ancient roads also act as excellent modern links to close cities such as Lincoln, Nottingham and also allow easy movement North and South making Newark an excellent place to buy a property.
The Castle is one of the key features of the town and makes it a lovely place to buy a new home. It has great historical significance and was the staging points of many an interesting battle. The most famous of which is the Civil War from 1643 – 1646. The town had a phenomenal fighting force and beat back many an apposing force. Constructing other battlements, the Queens Sconce and the Kings Sconce helped them stand strong even when attacked by a seemingly superior army. In 1646 when Charles I ordered the surrender of the town most of the defences were destroyed. The Newark Castle is in almost the exact condition in which is left almost 400 years ago.
